President, Dr Lewes Peddell

Dr. Lewes Peddell is Director of the Canterbury College Arts Academy. Prior to this appointment he was Director of Music at St. Paul’s School from 1989 to mid-1999 and was abroad in the USA from mid-1999 through to the end of 2007. In the USA he completed his Masters in Music (Wind Conducting) and a Ph.D. in Music (Music Ed/Conducting) at the University of Minnesota. After his three year residency at Minnesota, he was a faculty member of the Sunderman Conservatory of Music, Gettysburg College (2002–2007) as Director of Bands and Orchestral Activities and taught courses in the Bachelor of Science Music Education program. Lewes was State Chair of Pennsylvania Chapter of the College Band Directors National Association, Collegiate Representative to the Pennsylvanian Chapter of the American String Teachers Association, and guest conducted honor bands and orchestras in Pennsylvania, New York, Long Island, Maryland and Nebraska. Among his other most influential conducting teachers are: Craig Kirchhoff, Stuart Malina, and Ralph Hultgren. He is also a graduate of the Brisbane College of Advanced Education with a Dip.T., and the QCM with a Bachelor of Music and Grad. Dip. in Performance.
Vice President, David Jones

David holds a Bachelor of Arts Music and Graduate Diploma in Education from Queensland University of Technology and a Masters of Music in Composition from the Queensland Conservatorium. He is currently Director of Music at Hillbrook Anglican School, Enoggera, a role that sees him directing ensembles and teaching classroom and instrumental music. David is also heavily involved in community music as the musical director of the Brisbane Municipal Concert Band since 1992 and more recently as the director of the Brisbane City Big Band. As a composer David is published under the Brolga Music label and enjoys regular performances of his works throughout Australia and internationally.

Ross is a graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Southern Queensland. From 1978 to 1989, he was a percussionist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and taught privately. In 1990, he moved to teaching full-time at Villanova College and then with Education Queensland. Ross left teaching for five years, but has recently returned and is a multi-instrumental teacher, mainly in the bayside area.

Alisa has a Bachelor of Arts Music and a Post Graduate Diploma of Education and has been employed by Education Queensland for the past 10 years. As a conductor, Alisa has held positions with the Young Conservatorium Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Queensland State Youth Wind Orchestra. She has also been the guest conductor of the Percy Grainger Orchestra at the Conservatorium State Honours Ensemble Program, in both North Queensland and Brisbane, and the MOST program run by Education Queensland. Alisa has also lectured in conducting at Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium.
Alisa has had a lengthy involvement in the world of community music-making and has been the musical director of two community concert bands. Alisa has run many professional development workshops for instrumental music teachers and conductors and has adjudicated at numerus competitions and festivals throughout Queensland and New South Wales. Alisa is currently the Head of Instrumental Music at Kelvin Grove State College, teaching instrumental and classroom music as well as directing six ensembles.

Craig Dabelstein

Craig Dabelstein commenced piano studies at age seven and took up the saxophone at age twelve. He has Bachelor of Arts Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Craig held the principal alto and tenor saxophone chairs in the Australian Wind Orchestra and has toured nationally and internationally. He has been an augmenting member of the Queensland Pops Orchestra, the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and The Queensland Orchestra. For many years Craig was a member of the Queensland Saxophone Quartet and has been a saxophone teacher at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He is currently the saxophone teacher and a band conductor at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. He has been the copyeditor of The Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine, is a regular reviewer for Music Forum magazine and is a research associate for the series of books Teaching Music Through Performance in Band. Craig is currently the editor of the complete works of Dr. David Whitwell.
Craig Davidson
Craig Davidson is native from Brisbane and graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with a Diploma of Music Performance majoring in trumpet in 1984. He worked for Education Queensland on and around the Gold Coast area for twenty three years before beginning his position with Instrumental Music Australia as Assistant Manager and Education Specialist in 2008. As a music educator, Craig has been instrumental in building large successful band programs in many Brisbane and Gold Coast State Primary and Secondary School and is highly involved in the New Horizons Adult starter band program. He is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator throughout Queensland, New South Wales, and New Zealand and is a sort after clinician in School Honour Band programs throughout Queensland. As a professional musician, Craig has been a frequent performer with the Chancellor Big Band on the Gold Coast and as a free-lance trumpet player in Queensland. As a composer, Craig has had many of his works performed by professional groups across Australia, the most recent being a level 4 Concert Band work entitled “Where I Stood” which was debuted at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod in 2008.
Myra Janiczak commenced playing trombone in lower secondary school in England, but it was evident that short arms and trombones don’t mix, so switched to Euphonium. She continued playing in school and community bands and orchestras throughout secondary school and then joined the Police Brass Band at the end of school. On emigrating to Australia in 1977 Myra joined a community concert band, started lessons and took AMEB exams. At forty years of age she decided to go back to school and received her Senior Certificate in 2000. Myra was encouraged to apply for a place at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and she completed a Music Studies degree on euphonium in 2007, and a Graduate Diploma of Education/Music in 2008. Myra has been involved in community bands and orchestras since 1977, is a member of two Salvation Army Bands and is a Brass Instrumental teacher at Prince of Peace Lutheran College and a relief Classroom Music teacher p-12 for Qld Education and Catholic Education.
