    Bundaberg Municipal Band is looking for a Musical Director. Below is some general information about the band. For further information about the position please contact the President Lesley Hume via email

    Formed in 1935, The Bundaberg Municipal Band was amalgamated from Bundaberg Excelsior Band, Burnett Brass Band and the Boys Band. We are the oldest remaining instrumental musical group in Bundaberg today and the name ‘Municipal’ is derived from when the Council financially contributed to the band (which ceased in the mid 1970’s). Band members are made up of professionals, local teachers, students, business owners, retirees and other employed persons. The mentoring and leadership from our adult members around values and learning experiences helps to develop the youth of the band within a safe and structured environment. Parents of our younger members are also actively involved in providing ongoing support and we foster people with disabilities within our group.
    We regularly have people come to rehearsals who are passing through Bundaberg from both within Australia and Internationally. Some of our members were affected directly and indirectly by the 2011 and 2013 Bundaberg Floods and the friendship that these people have through the band helped pull them through.

    We are the current Qld ‘C’ grade State Champions and compete at State and National level every year (self funded). We are extremely proud that many of our youth members have gone on to further their study in Music and achieve successful music careers – some have returned to work in Bundaberg. We are also a feeder band for Brisbane Brass and other Brisbane based bands. Some of our recent past successes;

    Ashley Carter – Trombonist with Tasmania Symphony Orchestra
    Liam O’Malley – Trombonist with Western Australia Symphony Orchestra
    Johnny Rotar – Brisbane Conservatorium – Johnny has written several written works which have been performed by various Australian Orchestras
    Selena Rasmussen – Brisbane Music Teacher, playing with Brisbane Brass
    Trevor Beyer – Brisbane based private Music School Teacher, plays professionally on the Brisbane Circuit
    Tim McCabe – Australian Army Band
    Peter McCabe – Music Teacher in Rockhampton, plays with Capricornia Silver Brass Band
    Tony Brown – Music Teacher in Bundaberg
    Luke Roberts – Music Teacher
    Jodie Pronger – Music Teacher in Bundaberg, Christian College
    Lyndon Wise – Brisbane Music Teacher, playing with Brisbane Excelsior
    Stuart Bent – Brisbane Music Teacher, playing with Brisbane Excelsior

    Through community requests, we formed a spin off Jazz group in the late 1990’s to cater for private functions such as weddings and birthdays etc. This group plays swing and jazz style music and encompasses other local people that play woodwind, keyboard and string instruments. Another musical spin off is the Oompah Band which is an ensemble group and plays sing-along-style popular music from eras gone by.
